Fizzy Morning on the Gallops

Guests watching racehorses train on the gallops Open morning guests on the gallops

On a cold January Sunday morning Queen Alexandra Stables opened its doors to its owners and the public. Guests arrived at 9.00am to enjoy breakfast and something fizzy before the horses came out to strut their stuff.

All horses (and jockeys) were very well behaved and none of them suffered stage fright whilst they paraded around the yard. We were very lucky to have two professional jockeys, Mickey Fenton and Andrea Atzeni on board to come in and ride out and chat to guests.

After everyone had enjoyed breakfast we headed out to the gallops to watch the horses. Unfortunately the weather was not so kind to us and it was fairly foggy up there! Up on the gallops guest speaker Steve Smith-Eccles told stories of his riding past as well as some history of Newmarket.

We then headed back to Queen Alexandra Stables to see the horses being washed off. This gave everyone a chance to chat to the jockeys about the horses and to see them up close. It was then back into the warm to have a touch more food and drink and to listen to some more funny stories from Steve Smith-Eccles.

A very enjoyable morning which will be repeated with a BBQ in the summer.
